eRX: How to Reset the EPCS Passphrase
When a provider is prescribing a controlled substance, they will need to provide their signature password, their EPCS passphrase, and the code from the token they registered during the EPCS process.
Welkin is able to assist with the signature password. However, if the provider is unable to remember their EPCS passphrase, this will need to be reset. Please have the provider complete the instructions below to reset their passphrase:
- Navigate to the following website: https://ui.epcsdrfirst.com/pob/login
- Click on “forgot passphrase”.
- Next – Enter NPI and credential ID – (the credential ID is the ID of their token – for example – a soft token credential ID may look like this: SYMC11111111).
- The provider will enter the email address associated with their account (not a personal email address – this is the email that they used to start/ complete the EPCS process).
- Enter the OTP code (6 digit code in VIP access app or code from hard token).
- After entering the OTP code, this will generate an email – open the email and click the link.
- The provider will need to answer the security questions that they entered during identity proofing.
- The answers to the security questions are case sensitive. If they answer incorrectly, they will be allowed 3 attempts every 15 minutes.
- If the security questions are answered successfully, they will be allowed to create a new passphrase
- The passphrase should contain no special characters and will need to have at least one upper case letter, lower case letter, and a number.
