Tapered or Titrated Medications
To create a prescription that requires tapering or titrating:
- Log in to Rcopia, and go to the patient’s profile. Begin following the prescription workflow.
- Search for the medication that needs to be tapered/titrated (e.g., prednisone).
- Select the highest dose you will use to begin the taper/titrate (i.e., 20 mg), though you can still change dosing in the next screen.
- Fill out the instructions for the medication on the first line.
When you get to the last drop-down menu, select an option (i.e., then) to add another line of instructions.
- Continue populating instructions for as many lines as necessary to complete tapering/titration instructions.
- Each time you want to begin a new line select an option from the last drop-down menu (i.e., then).
- Add a Primary Diagnosis from the drop-down menu on the bottom right corner, in order to add a Secondary Diagnosis (optional).
- Select Review and acknowledge any required alerts.
- Review the prescription and either add it to your pending prescriptions, or send it to the pharmacy immediately, per your workflows.
Variable Dosing
To prescribe a medication where your patient will need variable dosing:
- Login to Rcopia, and go to the patient’s profile. Begin prescribing as you normally would.
- Search for the medication.
- Select a dose your patient will use, though you can still change dosing in the next screen.
- Fill out the instructions for the medication on the first line.
When you get to the Other drop-down menu, you may type in relevant instructions for that line directly (i.e., INR < 1.5). The Other field functions as both a drop-down menu and a free text field.
When you get to the last drop-down menu, select an option (i.e., then) to add another line of instructions.
- Continue populating instructions for as many lines as needed to complete variable dosing instructions. Each time you want to begin a new line select an option from the last drop-down menu (i.e., or).
- For variable dosing, you will likely need to type in the quantity of medication (e.g., tablets) that you are prescribing, as this will not auto populate.
- Add a Primary Diagnosis from the drop-down menu on the bottom right corner, before you can populate a Secondary Diagnosis (optional).
- Select Review and acknowledge any required alerts.
- Review the prescription and either add it to your pending prescriptions, or send it to the pharmacy immediately, as you would normally.
